We work with children who

bulletexperience anxiety and depression
bullethave suffered a loss or trauma
bullethave been diagnosed with either an autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or other childhood difficulty.

If you are wondering whether we could work effectively with your child, please call.  One of us will be able to help you directly or to make a helpful referral.

Specialized treatment groups for children and teens:  These groups are offered weekly for youth ages 3-18.  All groups are led by experienced, graduate level professionals and focus on increasing overall socio-emotional and developmental functioning using developmentally appropriate games and activities.

Specific goals include improvement in the following developmental areas:

1Pragmatic language - understanding social language including verbal and nonverbal learning and development.                              2)  Peer cooperation - moving on from parallel play to including one or more other children, sharing, turn-taking, patience.                    3)  Building upon theory of mind - learning about different perceptions and skill sets, empathy.                                                4)  General developmental skills and appropriate behavior - attention seeking, impulse control, following directions, eye contact, nonverbal cues, initiating interaction with peers.                              5)  Sensory processing and motor development - groups balance individual goals for improving fine and gross motor skills and sensory processing.

Our treatment groups are ongoing, including throughout the summer.   An initial screening is required.  The initial screening is $105.00; Weekly social skills groups meet for one hour and cost $50.00 per session.

Parent Involvement:  Adults accompanying children receive information about skills taught so they may reinforce and integrate work and progress at home.  Confidentiality is strictly adhered to for everyone.

Parents also have the opportunity to meet as a group to voice concerns and discuss issues of their own.  In some cases, parent groups led by a professional may be offered during children's groups.

Our Philosophy - We believe that children strive toward health.  With effective guidance we can help them to reach their fullest potential.

Our focus on group work with children reflects our belief that teaching children the skills needed for living cooperatively with others is an important investment in our future.
